Along with our sister group in Camden, we are planning a family cycle ride from Islington to the Lee Valley in early October. We will update this page with more details when they are confirmed but what we do know is that it’ll be a fun, social occasion with a leader and marshalls. And of course a stop for coffee and cakes. Ideal for everyone to join in !
The speaker at our July Cycle Islington meeting was Will McMahon of the CCJS (the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies) who talked about the Holloway Prison site redevelopment project. The CCJS is seeking the views of local residents and anyone who cycles, works, studies or shops in the area. Camden Road/Parkhurst Road junction sits right by the prison site and any redevelopment might be an opportunity to re-engineer that space so it’s less of a motorway and more of an inviting space for everyone. There is a survey on potential developments here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/plan4holloway
On Saturday, 30 September from 1pm-4pm at St George’s Church on Crayford Road, N7, the findings from the survey will be discussed with residents for the first time. For more details keep an eye on the CCJS site : https://plan4holloway.org/. Cycle Islington, along with other community groups, will be there so come along, find out more about the plans, and say hello.
Like all local LCC groups, Cycle Islington will be leading a feeder ride to the Prudential Freecycle on Saturday 29 July. We’ll be meeting at Highbury Fields, near the war memorial, at 1030 and will return at about 1500. Keep an eye out for more details. And don’t forget to register !
