No contraflow in new road

An Islington council officer confirmed on Friday 19.07.13 that Jim Veal Drive is to become a one-way street; there is no contraflow for cyclists planned.  This road is used by several of our members travelling from the Tufnell Park area towards Upper Street and beyond. Using Corporation Street, Jim Veal Drive, Clock View Crescent and Shearling Way, it provides a neat short cut, avoiding the use of York Way and a large part of Market Road.

Over the years we have spent many hours with council officers discussing the introduction of contra flows on all of Islington’s roads. We are trying to establish whether cyclists were forgotten in this scheme or whether there is some subtle reason why a contraflow could not be inserted from day one.

ICAG understood that all new roads in Islington would be accessible to cyclists in both directions and is disappointed at this turn of events.
