Islington tops inner London boroughs in 2023 Healthy Streets Scorecard results

Congratulations to Cllr Rowena Champion and the team at Islington Council on coming top, for the third year running, in this fifth iteration of the Healthy Streets Scorecard.

This external benchmarking shows that the council’s determination to make our streets safer, greener and cleaner is recognised and lauded.  We urge them to keep up and increase the pace as there’s always more to be done with so little time in which to achieve so much.

The six topics measured are:

  • Low Traffic Neighbourhoods
  • School Streets
  • Protected cycle lanes
  • 20mph speed limits
  • Bus priority
  • Controlled Parking Zones – included this year for the first time

Inactivity and obesity are known killers with the NHS spending millions of pounds to counteract their effects on our physical and mental health. We have always known that that great invention of 1817, the bicycle, is key to better health not just for the cyclist, but for the environment in which they cycle.  Sustainable, clean, efficient and fun.  Read more about our results here.

The Healthy Streets Scorecard is run by a coalition of nine organisations who we thank for their hard work and dedication to detail.  They are already planning for 2024 which will be a busy year with mayoral and general elections.
